Results-driven engineering consultancy.

IoT, energy, AI, cybersecurity: we take what each domain requires, no more, no less.

Brussels. 20 years in the field. Multidisciplinary team, production-ready deliverables.

Three situations

Three situations where we make a real difference.

You have a connected product idea.

You're at concept or pre-prototype stage. Before committing a significant R&D budget, you want to validate technical feasibility, identify the real risks and get a working prototype that can be defended before an investment committee. We adapt the format and timeline to your decision window.

You have an IoT fleet, and it's giving you trouble.

Intermittent failures, slow platform, uncertain security, drifting operational costs. You know there's a problem, but not where it is or what to prioritise. We diagnose your infrastructure end to end, from sensor to cloud, and deliver a costed improvement plan. Audit, fixes, execution support: choose one or take them in sequence.

You need a long-term technical partner.

Fractional technical leadership, regular security audits, architecture decisions on major evolutions. You have an internal team but no full-time senior IoT/energy/security specialist. We take the role, several days per month or per week depending on your needs.

Why us

Why Signal to Noise.

Genuinely full-stack.

From the electronic component to the cloud dashboard, covering industrial protocols (Modbus, CAN, P1/S1), radio (LoRa, cellular) and cybersecurity. Not a team of specialists who pass the ball between them. A team that takes responsibility for the whole system.

Security by design, not an afterthought.

CISSP in-house. We know what a compromised IoT product looks like, and we know how much it costs. We design from the threat model, not by bolting security on at the end.

0 to 1, and 1 to N.

We don't just deliver prototypes. We accompany you through series production, certification (CE, Synergrid C10/26, applicable standards) and ongoing operations.

Our method

Three non-negotiable commitments.

Engagement models

01

Technical audit and scoping

Short format, written deliverable. Feasibility, risks, target architecture, costed roadmap. Scope and duration defined together based on your stakes.

02

Project mission

Defined scope, defined deliverable. From specification to production-ready prototype, or from current project to new deployed version. Fixed price or day rate.

03

Fractional technical leadership

Long-term engagement, regular presence. You have a team and want a senior to steer, arbitrate and secure. Format adapted to your workload and deadlines.

What we take on
  • Connected industrial products, from sensor to cloud.
  • High-value IT missions: applied AI, cybersecurity, critical platform refactoring.
  • Fractional technical leadership for IoT, energy or data-intensive platform teams.
What we don't take on
  • Showcase websites, consumer mobile apps without strong technical depth.
  • Missions without an initial scoping phase.
  • Core technical work subcontracted out: we keep the lead.

Lactose.help: an AI ecosystem to shop with confidence

Context

About 70% of the world's population is lactose intolerant, yet most navigate blindly: they avoid products they could safely eat, overpay for items labelled "lactose-free", or give up foods they enjoy, all for lack of reliable information. We co-founded the lactose.help ecosystem together, The AI App Factory and Signal to Noise.

The challenge

Exact lactose values barely exist, so the method had to derive a trustworthy answer from nutritional composition and ingredient lists, stay conservative when data is incomplete, and track formulation changes over time. Two constraints shaped everything: the scope is strictly lactose intolerance (an enzyme deficiency), not milk protein allergy; and every result had to sit on the safety side rather than risk a falsely reassuring score.

Our approach
  • Built an analysis methodology anchored on an EFSA-derived safety threshold: 1g of lactose per meal, compatible with all forms of intolerance, so even the most sensitive people can eat without issue.
  • Designed the Lacto-Score (A to E), a five-level scale inspired by the Nutri-Score, to make each result readable at a glance with a maximum recommended dose.
  • Built the pipeline: barcode recognition, lookup across OpenFoodFacts and other food databases, with AI image analysis of the label as a fallback when a product is missing or needs verification.
  • Adopted a conservative "maximum dose" logic instead of false exact values, defaulting to the least favourable score when dairy is present but unquantifiable.
Results
  • Complete ecosystem in production: scanning app (PWA, iOS, Android), reference book and educational content, built from first prototype to launch in a matter of months.
  • Medical sections proofread by registered dietitians.
  • Covered in the press and on radio, and presented to the public: L'Avenir, Food in Action, BX1, BXFM, the Compose podcast, and Maker Faire Brussels.
Retail · Energy Project mission

Retail energy optimisation

Context

A Belgian clothing retailer wanted to reduce energy consumption across its stores (lighting, HVAC) without heavy capital investment or operational disruption.

The challenge

Stores were not uniformly equipped. A single product was needed, capable of remotely controlling and monitoring heterogeneous equipment with a clear ROI.

Our approach
  • Common hardware platform, decoupled software layer adaptable to existing equipment per site.
  • Local and remote control of lighting by opening hours, HVAC regulation to cut consumption.
  • Per-store consumption monitoring with feedback to operators.
  • Secure end-to-end architecture, deployable without operational interruption.
Results
  • −17% electricity consumption on equipped stores.
  • Return on investment between 2 and 3 years.
  • Labelled Solar Impulse Efficient Solution (assessed by 3 independent experts).

Remote control of wind turbine obstruction lighting

Context

Wind operator Eneco wanted to remotely switch off the obstruction lights on its Belgian wind turbines to reduce light pollution when air traffic doesn't require it.

The challenge

Obstruction lighting is regulated and critical for aviation safety. The system required a reliable, redundant, continuously monitored architecture capable of reacting instantly to a detected aerial event.

Our approach
  • Full design of the obstruction lighting controller and its firmware.
  • Multi-cloud architecture for command chain redundancy.
  • Supervised telemetry with continuous state reporting per device.
  • Compliance with aviation safety and reliability requirements.
Results
  • System deployed in production on Eneco wind farms in Belgium.
  • Public demonstration by Eneco in an official communications video (YouTube, 2020).

Let's talk about your project.

We work with a limited number of clients in parallel. To respond quickly and well, we always start with a short questionnaire that lets us qualify your need before the first call.

We're the right partner if
  • Your project involves electronics, firmware, or a physical connected product.
  • Or: applied AI, cybersecurity, or a critical platform with strong technical depth.
  • You're looking for a senior technical partner committed for the long term, not a body shop.
  • You're prepared to invest the time needed for proper upfront scoping.
If that's not your case

We can point you in the right direction. We have a network of independents for more ad-hoc or out-of-scope needs.
